            Type Protected Area Management
            Location Uganda
            Grant Amount $50,000
            Duration 3 months

Wildlife in Uganda is facing a variety of challenges related to rapidly growing human populations, development and illegal wildlife trade. For lions, these threats manifest most prominently via human-lion conflict, bushmeat poaching and poaching of lions for their body parts. The situation has been greatly exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis, which has left the Uganda Wildlife Authority critically under-funded. The LRF provided Uganda Conservation Foundation with a grant of $50 K to support law enforcement and management in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth national parks during this crisis period.
